Trump says that tariffs 'may' cause pain to Americans.

Is that justifiable, as long as they cause pain to people you don't like? It stikes me that masochism is a big part of MAGA.

I get that people see free international trade as a problem that has damaged America. I actually agree on that and I think it's damaged everywhere. It's allowed company CEOs to outsource jobs, undercut unions. It's led to de-industrialisation and a race to the bottom

Are tariffs the answer? Not like this. If you want to bring jobs back and re-industrialise a country, you would need an industrial strategy. As 'rival' companies are blocked off, you need domestic production in place to meet the demand with an alternative supply. You would want to build up US industries (through tax breaks/subsidies or whatever) so it's ready to go.

Imposing heavy tariffs and just leaving it to the market is a recipe for chaos. It's an extremely crude, inefficient and brutal way of solving a problem. Prices will rise, people will face layoffs and it will take a few years for the market to re-adjust. At best; At worst, all this pain will be for no advantage.

The chaos will be doubled because the coming trade war will hit anyone exporting to Mexico and Canada. In addition, what of the manufacturing supply chains that cross borders? To state the obvious, this really did need a plan!

Trump's tariffs are a crude solution to a complicated problem. They will bigly cost Americans and their neighbours. It's bad that your computer has stopped working, so then hit it with a stick.

You know what they say about misery and the fact it loves company. I've now come to terms with the fact that this presidency is literally the age of Karen, (no offense to any good Karens.) And so I've taken to calling my US, the United States of Karen because it's no longer America to be honest.

I mean freaking out about diversity, pearl clutching over trans people, becoming hysterical about black authors in school... it literally is Karens having their day collectively after melting down for years upon years after this society has grown more diverse and merely "talking to the manager" hasn't worked out for them.

But Maga is so miserable! If you listen to them, they are so spiteful and nasty people, they really don't care about anyone else because their lives are so bad they want everyone else to suffer. They are so simple minded so yeah you're probably right

There are no good Karens. A Karen is a curse in any family and to the neighborhood. A Karen has a strong point of view about everything.

Diversity is a concern when it defines public policy imposed on American society by a "few good people". This is the way of the Karen who sees herself as a good woman.

Maga is a reaction of mainly white Americans, supported by other immigrants, to radical social engineering by an imperious cabal pushing for globalism.

@Entwistle Brilliant. Good reference to a certain Hellenic Nazi Party too!

Your post would the title of the best/worst horror B movie ever!

@Entwistle This is accurate though that's the sad part haha. I mean we're literally entering the age of the Karens and we'll start seeing a lot of stuff like that.

I don't think diversity is imposed on anyone, groups who are historically marginalized face greater discrimination in employment. This is a well known fact that you can't change. If Magas have an issue with public policy, I'd suggest that employers not discriminate then, easy fix.

A lot of laws can be prevented if people can be trusted right? So don't do it then, give people a chance if they have the experience regardless if they're trans, women, immigrants or otherwise

The US is a capitalist economy. The marketplace is a free-for-all world where free choice allows people to buy what they want and hire who they need. Discrimination is the freedom to choose who you want to marry and who you want to hire to work for you. Employers cannot not discriminate between who fits in and who does not.

Forget experience, if they have the capability to produce, the American employer would hire a chimpanzee to fly a Boeing and feed it bananas. No offense. It's all about the bottom line. And this is where we are heading with AI.

It's about who has the skills to do the job, that's why DEI practices are important.

Yup true. Wasn't saying they wouldn't.
