Trumpy finishes off Canadian hopes and dreams.

Canada is already viewed as a heavily taxed, beurocratic mess with close to 50% of the population being in the state machinery, the other 50% being poor migrants and outliers who do work in lumber, oil and other industries. Real estate is overvalued by at least 200%, inflation is on the rise, construction is not keeping up with the migrant population and now with the Trumpy tariff of 25%, everything will become soo much more expensive. Its over for Canadians.

The tariff is on Canadian goods coming in to the US, so it will be paid by American consumers. Unless I missed where Canada became a US state and Trump is now it’s president.

@LeopoldBloom As goods made in Canada become more expensive, more people will chose non-Canadian goods. Canadian business will sell less product, make less money, and pay less taxes

@LeopoldBloom While putting tariffs on foreign made products while mean higher prices for us for a little while, what they really do is hurt the exporting country's economy.
A lot of a countries economy depends on exporting their goods to other countries. If those countries stop buying them, their economy suffers.

I'd like to see him try, just to see the drama unfold

@ImperialAerosolKidFromEP LOL... I don't care. The one thing I have come to realize about Trump, is that he doesn't bluff. He says tariffs tomorrow, he means it. Unless of course Canada takes the easy path and works on the border. But I don't expect that until they've suffered a bit.
@carpediem then I guess that's what Canada did on his first day in office, because he didn't bluff; he just didn't follow through
carpediem · 61-69, M
@ImperialAerosolKidFromEP He was elected to fix the border. It's such a mess, he'll need cooperation from bordering countries. He called that out and outlined what needed to be done. Apparently neither Mexico or Canada thought it was important enough to actually address. So here we are. The drama is about to unfold.

Why would Canadian prizes go up because trump imposes tariffs onto American prizes?
greatone87 · 36-40, M
@Daviszabecki because Production will move to the US, meaning trade imbalance in Canada, outflow of USD to manage expenses, less money to spend within Canada for investment and growth.
Daviszabecki · 56-60, M
@greatone87 that’s of course a speculation. But even if you’re right, it doesn’t mean that prices would go up in Canada.
MasterLee · 56-60, M
@Daviszabecki I never received any Canadian prizes

@jshm2 i guess it sounds nice we can say anything and pretend it's real
Every Canadian I talk with says Trudeau will be completely gone by march or april, and that the immigration service has stepped up and is vetting immigrants better, which was the reason why Trump promised the tariffs, they were letting in too much riff raff that were eventually making their way into the United States.

@Toofargone According to @beermeplease the Canadian government is stepping up to solve the issues of why Trump was imposing the tariff.
