Your Reaction to M. Streep's Award Speech?

“This instinct to humiliate, when it’s modeled by someone in the public platform, by someone powerful, it filters down into everybody’s life, because it kinda gives permission for other people to do the same thing,” she said. “Disrespect invites disrespect, violence incites violence. And when the powerful use their position to bully others, we all lose.”

For? Against? In the middle?

I completely agree with her and her points about bullying, empathy and art. I thought she did it in a classy, heartfelt way. I don't take issue with celebrities being political. I may not always agree, but they're human beings with the right to their opinions, and they have a platform and a following. They can be a voice for change, for compassion, for logic and reason just as anyone in the public eye can be. Just because she's an artist doesn't make her any less credible to me. I take opinions of anyone who states them and filter them against facts and my own knowledge, experience and conscience.
Well said.
