Gulf of America - not gonna happen without Mexico's consent. Here's why:

When a body of international waters borders more than one country (like USA and Mexico), all countries have to agree on a name-change, which means the US cannot unilaterally decide to change the name of the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America.

Good point...

Though Mr. Trump appears not to know much about international law or even etiquette! Perhaps his advisors dare not tell him...

The Gulf of America is only found using the Google search engine, but all the other search engines don't recognize the Gulf of America. Google does because Mark Zuckerberg who owns Google, is under Donald's thumb right now if he wants to continue to operate a business in the USA. Therefore, the only place you will find the name Gulf of America printed are in American-owned publishing houses and American-owned websites.

@swirlie As bad as that? It is not so much the name, but what this shows of Mr. Trump's power over publishers that counts.

I wonder what would happen if Mr. Zuckerberg called Mr. Trump's bluff by defying him? Would he have to ask Canada, Australia or an European country if can transfer there? China would happily buy it!

Or even just shut up shop. He is rich enough to retire so if forced to close, he could and so everyone around the world might open Google one day to read only, "Closed by Presidential decree. Good to have known you all. Thankyou, Goodbye and Good Luck".

Actually I was using Google Earth only last night, to examine China's curious, apparently illogical and very little reported development of a geographically very remote and difficult, but very sensitive, corner of its empire.....
