The general definition of an oligarchy is a form of government involving the rule of a few persons or families. According to National Geographic, Greek philosopher Aristotle used the term in contrast to aristocracy (the elite upper class) to describe the rule of a few for “corrupt and unjust purposes.”

Patrimonialism is probably a more precise characterization of what we will have to expect in many Western ex-republics. It's a patron-client system, but on a political level. If you're not a client then you'll be in deep sh*t.
It means that all power flows from the patron (the ruler), and loyalty towards the law is replaced by loyalty towards FearlessLeader.
The Jan 6 Capitol attack was a nice fore-taste of what's yet to come. 😕
