All of Los Angeles County receives evacuation alert in error. Shades of the Hawaiian ballistic missile alert ("This is not a drill.")
Los Angeles County officials accidentally sent an evacuation text to all residents in error on Thursday evening as wildfires continue to spread rapidly throughout the area.
The city’s emergency management department retracted the statement on X and in text messages to residents.
“Recent @ReadyLACounty alert to evacuate was sent in ERROR. Evacuation orders have not changed. See map for actual @LACity evacuation orders for some selected areas, ONLY,” the department wrote in a Thursday post.
Los Angeles County Supervisor Janice Hahn wrote on X that the message was “mistakenly issued countywide due to a technical error.”
The original message urged residents to depart with “loved ones, pets and supplies.”

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Exactly six years ago, Hawaii residents and visitors woke up to a terrifying emergency alert on their cell phones that sent a wave of panic across the state.
The message warned of a ballistic missile heading for Hawaii.
It read, “BALLISTIC MISSILE THREAT INBOUND TO HAWAII. SEEK IMMEDIATE SHELTER. THIS IS NOT A DRILL.”
