Please pray for Venezuela tomorrow
...the land of my wife and more in-laws than I can name. As you may already know, Venezuela had a presidential election last year. The outcome depends on whom you ask. According to the incumbent, (Maduro) he won, continuing a 25-year-old regime.
Tomorrow, Jan 10, will be the inaugural ceremony. The opposition candidate (Gonzalez) also claims victory, and he has declared that he will be in Caracas tomorrow to assume office. Several former South American presidents have made a similar declaration, and that they will be there to support Gonzalez.
What you might not know is that several years ago, Venezuela's military was estimated to have 2000 flag officers; well over double the USA's! And it's also believed to have increased since then!
I won't go into the economic hardships and human rights abuses the populace have been subjected to, but suffice to say that between that, an inflated officer corps and an unstoppable force meeting an immovable object, you've got a perfect formula for civil war.
