Panama Canal CEO says Trumps demands would cause unnecessary catastrophe

The Panama Canal was built by the United States, with the help of several engineers, after the French failed to complete the project
The United States paid for the Panama Canal, which cost around $375 million to build:
Paid to Panama: $10 million as part of the 1903 treaty
Paid to the French: $40 million for the French company's assets after they abandoned the project
Fortifications: An additional $12 million for fortifications.
The Panama Canal authority is charging American ships exorbitant fees.
