ONLY if Elon can remove all possibility of conflict of interest. The way people typically remove conflicts of interest is by putting all their assets into a blind trust to be operated by independent outsiders. BTW, Billionaire Nelson Rockefeller did that in order to become Vice President.

@ElwoodBlues That’s what Trump was asked to do in 2016 (he refused and no one insisted). I doubt Musk would even be asked.

How is Musk's business a conflict of interest to the job he is currently doing?
He's not replacing government vehicles with Teslas.
He's basically in charge of GOVERNMENT EFFICIENCY. How is that related to his business?
(We'll wait for you to make something up.)

@Reason10 Easy peasy, dude!!
Tesla got it's start with a big rebate for electric car buyers. It amounted to a subsidy for each Tesla that was bought. 卐LON is now strongly recommending that the rebate be cancelled - for "efficiency" reasons. 卐LON is trying to use "efficiency" to prevent any other business from benefiting from the same conditions that allowed him to thrive!!
SpaceX also received large amounts of funding from the Government. SpaceX got a "long term development contract" from NASA that paid hundreds of millions of dollars long before any capsule was launched.
Those progress payments were a government subsidy. 卐LON has been recommending other such payments to other businesses such as United Launch Alliance be cancelled for "efficiency" reasons.
And then there are Musk's China ties. He has both a car factory (Giga Shanghai) and a battery factory there. Will he risk their profits in the name of tariff related "efficiency"??

As of April 2012, NASA had put in about $400–500 million of this amount, with most of that as progress payments on launch contracts.
