There's a lot to be said about people in politics as being 'people of conviction.'
To be a politician is to give up your personal life and become the proverbial "Everyman" (everyperson!) to your constituents - or to your country. That decision requires a sense of moral direction, having a sense of purpose for your efforts and also steadfastness through times of criticism self-doubt.
However, there comes a time when decisions have to be reckoned. And we know that the life of a politician depends upon being able to please most of the people all of the time (Ha Ha). Justin Trudeau has come to that point: He has made mistakes, he has (at times) taken bad counsel and pledged for the wrong instead of for the right.
When he started, he was a good manager (that's what a Prime Minister is - despite being called a 'leader) - he delegated to his Ministers and he assessed their progress toward the goals they had collectively set for Canada and Canadians. He allowed them latitude (hands off) to make their case, and, in return, they served him and Canadians well. It won him and his party re-electon. However in the times between elections he tarnished his appearance by 'gaffs' (not lawlessness as in the case of some current politicians). Now he's facing that criticism and the tally of it. And, all governments must end - that's just the way it is in a democracy!
