Current police officer here in one of the western states, and I can confirm that most cops generally go Republican. I’d say the majority whom I know and work with have a fairly socially liberal outlook after their years on the job, which gives them a bit of a libertarian streak to their general level of conservatism. Many I know support Donald Trump (some enthusiastically) and believe any of the negative commentary against him is nothing more than “fake news.”
That all said, if there is one thing cops don’t typically like it’s a braggart. There’s a lot of premium placed on being humble in one’s line of work, and showboating is often frowned upon. Due to this, I’ve been seeing an increasing eye-roll reaction to Trump’s statements and actions.
