NY Governor Hochul demands Homeland Security close it’s border with Canada to stop illegal immigrants. Some are costing $70,000 a year to care for.

Earlier this week our hypocrisy meters were pinned to “max” when President Biden pardoned his son on those drug and gun charges. But that's yesterdays news. Today the state of New York is demanding more armed federal agents to halt people crossing over from Canada. See link at bottom.
Governor Hochul . . . I feel your pain. New York City alone expects to spend $10 billion on “migrant services” next year. That’s about 10% of the city’s entire budget. The average cost per migrant is over $50,000 a year. For some lucky ones – housed in New York City’s nicest hotels, the daily cost for the room alone is $388. That would be $140,000 a year BEFORE meals, clothing, medical care etc. But let’s assume it’s a double occupancy room, which would reduce the housing expense to just $70,000 a year.
To be fair, New York City is still getting busloads of migrants from places like Texas and Florida. States which endured years of influx, and have no room to house them, and are spending billions also. Well, what did New York expect if they began bragging about being a sanctuary state?
I’m not in any way criticizing Governor Hochul for her insight and prudence. She’s done the budget math, and this can’t continue. NYC is full, and the city is threatening to send their illegal aliens up to Albany (the state capitol), Buffalo, Rochester, Syracuse, Schenectady . . .
And now migrants are hiking in from Canada too. When they start showing up in the state capitol, even if they speaking Arabic, Persian, or Urdu instead of Spanish, it’s likely to cause consternation. Will Albany need to budget more for pro-gaza demonstrations?
Let's face it. About half the world just ISN'T a nice place to live. Of course they go somewhere else.
Can the Department of Homeland security turn back the incoming tide from Canada? I’m not optimistic. The “longest undefended border in the world” (as we like to brag about it) has a LOT of woodsy areas you can walk through undetected. And this could just turn into whack-a-mole anyway. If DHS did somehow manage to seal off New York's border with Canada, does anyone really think migrants won’t just shift their routes to Maine, Minnesota, and Montana?
Governor Hochul deserves kudos for asking for help. But Trump isn't even inaugurated yet. In the meantime, she might consider busing illegal aliens to some other sanctuary state. Boston City Council president Ruthzee Louijeune (her actual name, no fooling) and all 13 members of her council voted unanimously to reaffirm their migrant/sanctuary welcome mat. However, the media is not reporting on how the governor of Massachusetts or voters feel about this.
I’m just sayin’ . . .
