Meet the govt worker who earns $235K. She just had a 90 day sabbatical from work, and then immediately left for a Hawaiian vacation.

Photo above - an authentic "lei greeting" at Honolulu airport is only $20. It's not known if the federal employee who took 90 days off and THEN went to Hawaii on vacation paid the extra 20 bucks to get lei'd.

I am soooo stoked by the Musk/Ramaswamy plan to fire government workers who refuse to come back to the office. The first one I’d have them get rid of earns $235,000 a year. She took a 90 day sabbatical on full pay. When THAT ended, she immediately departed for a Hawaiian vacation.

Unfortunately, Musk-aswamy will never have the chance to fire this slacker. Her name is Kamala Harris. She’ll be retiring on the exact day the DOGE (Department of Government Efficiency) begins its mission to make government employees great again. Or at least make them show up work. Kamala will THEN immediately begin collecting her $139,000 annual pension for life. Since she’s only 60, years short of the retirement rules which apply to the rest of us, she can look forward to decades of inflation adjusted monthly checks. Don’t we all wish we had a deal like this? Full disclosure: This reporter DID try to reach out to Kamala for comment, but no one returned my calls.

I’m not sure what the rules are about skipping work for 3 months, whether or not you're chasing your dreams. This may very well be legal, knowing the kind of laws congress passes to butter their own bread. But immediately pivoting to a Hawaiian va-cay? Last time I checked there was plenty of things that need government attention. Our $35 trillion national debt. Wars in Ukraine and Gaza. Millions of unemployed migrants. Rampant antisemitic demonstrations by basketfuls of deplorables in various American cities. Homeless tents from sea to shining sea . . .

I’m deadly serious about Kamala, and other government slackers. I DO realize being VP is complete BS, with no work responsibilities other than what someone actually sets for themselves. That’s why Harris couldn’t point to any “achievements” when she ran for president. But that doesn’t change the issue. Government workers should have to fill out a form and get permission if they're going to be absent from months on end. And then they shouldn’t automatically go to Hawaii afterwards, just because DC is cold and dreary this time of year. Taxpayers deserve better.

I’m just sayin’ . . .

Harris disappears from spotlight, vacations in Hawaii after election loss
Elected officials are subject to different rules. The only way to remove the VP is impeachment.

Speaking of which, maybe Musk can recommend stopping pay for Thomas and Alito, since they already make a nice living from Harlan Crow and other billionaires.

@LeopoldBloom sorry my satire eluded you. lesson learned.
@SusanInFlorida The combined salary of all civilian federal employees is around $250 billion. You could fire all of them and it would be a drop in the bucket. So apparently basic economics eluded you.

🤔........Only problem is that there is no Department of Government Efficiency. Departments are created by congress NOT the POTUS.......Department of Government Efficiency has no authority but can only make suggestions since it's not an approved department........
SusanInFlorida · 31-35, F
@Jimmy2016 so what happens then? executive orders?
Jimmy2016 · 61-69, M
@SusanInFlorida Who knows....... Not sure if an executive order can be used on this?
@SusanInFlorida Trump has mentioned impoundment, which is the president refusing to spend money that Congress appropriated. However, this has been illegal since 1974. Allowing it would mean the president could ignore Congress. Some people might see this as a problem.
Come talk to me when the highest paid public employee in Alabama is no longer a football coach. Then we can talk ridiculous government spending on salary.
SusanInFlorida · 31-35, F
@PicturesOfABetterTomorrow that's on alabama. but i'm not suggesting the governor state senate all deserve raises. alabama is a highly ranked NCAA football program. the government of alabama probably doesn't place in the top 10 though.
@SusanInFlorida So what? Are you seriously going to argue spending millions of tax payer dollars to use state universities (again publicly funded) as recruitment centres for an organization worth millions but still somehow registered as a "non profit" is good use of public funds?

That level of waste makes the example you gave look like loose change in the couch cushions.

You are being a LITTLE BIT HARSH in your expectations.

There is really not much point going to or turning up at work or returning to work when you actually don't have a real job and secondly once you know you have sort of been "FIRED" anyway. Being a VP is actually a good job, you really don't have much to do and pretty much very little responsibility , can pick and choose anything you might want to do to pass some time but there is a nice pay check and pension plan afterwards.

@jshm2 i'm in favor of paying all politicians by the hour. for the work they actually do. not for golfing, running for re-election, or writing memoirs.

I'm an executive on a public sector union. On behalf of unionized public sector workers:

Everyone deserves vacations and job security. Fight for them.
SusanInFlorida · 31-35, F
@CountScrofula does everyone deserve a 4 year job with no duties?
wildbill83 · 41-45, M
but I'm sure she'll find the time to whine about "income inequality"...🙄
