Under the USSR, a million innocent people were murdered every year. During that time dems were very much apologists for the USSR. Why the change?

When the USSR wanted to put missiles in Cuba, dems supported Kennedy’s ultimatum rather than war. Why do you want to go to war so badly, especially since there are workable solutions that won’t endanger the world.?
