That is Te Rauparaha's Haka. He was a Māori rangatira, warlord, and chief of the Ngāti Toa iwi.

The Haka is the same traditional one the All Blacks used for many years and still do.

I saw this and the comments mostly seemed to be centered around how embarrassing and unprofessional this was as if it was spontaneous and not relevant to the founding treaty they were discussing. It couldn't be any more relevant. As for embarrassing, eh that's subjective, I've always thought it came across empowering

@HijabaDabbaDoo The proposed Bill strips away rights of Māori enshrined in the Treaty of Waitangi and other rights fought for since Colonisation. It was embarrassing that the Bill was ever brought into being....it won't get up.
@KiwiBird what's the general publics take on it?

@HijabaDabbaDoo Not hundred percent sure....I live in Australia atm.
The guy proposing it actually has Māori heritage but doesn't embrace it at all.

I saw the earlier. There's something about that ritual that's captivating. And I've never seen it done where they're not totally in to it. I looked in to it after I saw that clip. Really interesting. And intimidating.

@Ynotisay The New Zealand rugby also does the haka before every game.

That MP did it brilliantly though!

@Burnley123 Yep. The All Blacks. And the other teams just have to stand there and watch. Love that. It's kinda' scary. :)

In the scale of wildest things I've seen happening inside a parliament, I'd say this Is a solid 3rd place
Well, that's just awesome and I hope it has the desired effect for them👏👏👏👏

The gentleman with glasses is "not amused".

However, being an outsider, I have no idea what the outcry is all about but it is still so much more civilized than in Italy

What led to that?

@KiwiBird That makes it even more awkward.
