Names Floated for Rubio's Senate Seat Include Florida First Lady Casey DeSantis and Trump's Daughter-in-Law Laura.
Either one should be good for Democrats because whoever DeSantis picks will be a Trump lackey.
They'd be easier to defeat when the special election rolls around to finish Rubio's term.
There's also speculation that DeSantis might engineer his own appointment, by resigning and having his Lt. Gov. appoint him to the Rubio's vacanted Senate seat.
Decades ago in Minnesota, the state governor wanted to be a U.S. senator. With a vacancy in the U.S. Senate due to Walter Mondale resigning to become Vice President, Gov. Wendell R. Anderson resigned. Lt. Gov. Rudy Perpich became governor and appointed the now FORMER governor Anderson to the U.S. Senate.
Voters were not happy about what Perpich and Anderson did. In 1978 when Anderson ran for the full-six year Senate term he lost. And so did Perpich running for re-election as governor.
