Well America, I sure hope you know what you're doing.
Firstly, good to see a free and fair election; not that there was any doubt.
Secondly, Trump won this election because, for better or worse, he has reshaped the Republican party from a country club elitist party to be the party of the working class, at a time when the cost of living crisis (that we are ALL suffering since the pandemic) is first and foremost in the majority of people's minds.
Thirdly, and related to that, the Democrats have NOT changed, and they clearly have a SEVERE image problem, compounded by the fact that they're probably going to lose the popular vote as well. They have become the party of Hollywood, relying on massive donations and glowing endorsements from rich celebrities, and this has not played well. They had a BIG chance to change that in 2016. Bernie ran on a progressive, rabidly anti-establishment platform which made colossal inroads into all walks of American life! He had a huge following! He would have annihilated Trump. BUT, he was seen as an outsider by the Democratic establishment, and it was Hillary's "turn". The rest is history.
Fourth, it's clear that neither party really gives a crap about anyone who is not white and Christian. We know this for the GOP, of course, but Harris had a BIG chance to speak out about the atrocities in the Middle East committed by Israel. She could have allowed Muslim speakers at the DNC, she could have allowed the Uncommitteds a seat at the table. She refused, and as a result lost a huge number of votes, either to Trump or to third parties, or by people simply staying home (which seems to have happened again).
This election seems to show that the "establishment" in America needs to be torn down because people are not standing for it anymore. For Dems to be competitive again, they need to get rid of their elitist snobs in Washington, refocus on the working class, and run on unashamedly anti-establishment progressive positions to show the ordinary voters that they actually give a shit. Whether the Republicans do is HIGHLY debatable, but they are at least showing interest.
Finally, for f*ck's sake America, there is nothing wrong with your democracy (for now). This result shows clearly that the votes of the "ordinary, working person" (which most of us claim to be) DO count and DO matter. It is these votes outside the urban "elite" centres that have made the difference.
I'll just say finally, that the rest of the world wishes America luck. Trump says that he wants to heal America. I hope he means it. I really do...
