@ImperialAerosolKidFromEP They are taxed, just it's illegal to force them to pay Social Security. It is part of their religion not to do insurance (same for old style Marxists), and Social Security has the word Insurance in their name. Courts said they can't collect on it later on if they opt out, so it is best to stay Amish once you make the decision to stay in the community as you are pretty much screwed when you hit old age without someone to take care of you.
