Americans, why are you so afraid of free healthcare?

Universal healthcare is a wonderful thing. Why are so many americans against it?

You would think but it also a few draw backs also like longer waiting and harder to get doctors what you want is private and government health care services

I've heard that but i think i read that when you look at the stats wait times aren't really longer.
But even if they were, i feel not going bankrupt because you got sick is better

in uk you get seen within 4 hours in emergency, in 95% of cases.

@UnparalleledMonster: True that is why I suggested they be public for everyone and those who could afford it could go to a private clinic

@Firespirit: seems reasonable
Australia has a private and public healthcare system and the only difference between the two is people go private for non emergency or elective things and usually public for emergencies, wait times only depend on the severity of the issue. also if you choose to go private insurance your taxes are reduced so thats cool. When I had my baby I went public all the way.. ambulance to hospital, emergency c section i was on the slab being operated on in less than 5 minutes with a room full of doctors and specialists followed by 5 days in hospital with good drugs and it didnt cost me a cent (other than my medicare tax which is about $500 a year for my whole household) when I wanted my teeth to be all fixed and get some nice new glasses i went private also didnt cost me a cent because I pay like $20 a week into a dental optical plan because the public options are basic and generic I wanted fancier stuff. Its nice to have both options, its nice to know that no matter who you are in an emergency you are protected and its nice for private insurance companies to have the competition of the public healthcare to keep their prices down too.

@Firespirit: All the waiting for service, interminable wait times thing is largely BS. We have family in Canada and their experience has far surpassed our own with regard to healthcare. Here in the states I can wait 2 months for an appointment or procedure. It's no different than anywhere else.
