The President can only spend money the way Congress allocates it. All the money to Ukraine? Passed both houses of Congress. Israel & Taiwan? Likewise, @jackjjackson. Remember when Trump had to take money from military bases to build his defective "wall"? That's because Congress wouldn't allocate wall money, and the President has very very little discretionary money.

Congress allocates pools of emergency response money, and a separate pool for asylum seekers. It would be a CRIME to mix these two pools, @jackjjackson.

It's a holdover from the '60s & '70s US immigration law and policy was designed to spit in the eye of Fidel Castro by treating everyone who set foot on Florida as an asylum seeker. This helped earn votes from a swing demographic in a swing state. I agree, we need immigration reform.
And the Senate Bipartisan border bill would have closed that loophole and others! It was the first immigration overhaul since Reagan gave amnesty in 1986!
And of course you know what happened to he Senate Bipartisan border bill. Trump leaned on his flunkies to kill it. Trump wanted a mess on the border to run against. Trump DAMAGED America for campaign purposes. SICK!!
Wrong. The bill gave 60% to Ukraine 30% to Israel and 10% to the border. No one in their right mind would agree to that allocation. The bill that Trump blocked specified $20 billion to the border, $60 billion to Ukraine, and $14 billion to Israel. And after Trump blocked that bill, Congress passed a $61 billion allocation to Ukraine in April 2024. For Israel in 2024, Congress passed a $14 billion allocation in Feb, another $2.5 billion in Mar, and another $26 billion in April that was part of the same $95 billion security package that included the $61 billion to Ukraine noted above.
In short, Congress was more than happy to give LARGER amounts to Ukraine & Israel than were specified in the border bill Trump blocked. Money to Israel & Ukraine were NOT a stumbling block to Congress this past spring. The ONLY stumbling block was Trump's objection, @jackjjackson.
