The reason Trump and Putin get along is because Trump does anything Putin wants.
But there is a lot of truth in that quote. Fascists think that a person who lies a lot is strong because that person isn't bound by the confines of reality. When Trump lies about the election being rigged against him, we all know he's lying, but his cult likes that he's willing to tell such a brazen lie in order to hold on to power. This also appeals to Conservatives, who don't really believe in truth as a concept. To them, whether the world is rigged against Trump or not, it doesn't really matter. All that matters is that Trump is willing to speak about against the system, even if the system he's fighting for would be even worse.
