I remember when Vance's book (the "Hillbilly Elegy") was praised by almost everyone. I read some parts of the book, and apparently it focused on the cultural misery of poor white people: poverty, drug addiction, hopelessness, stuff like that.

@helenS Indeed. One of the things Vance used to brag about was having been a "never Trumper"—never a Trump supporter. To go from that to being the man’s Veep immediately makes one wonder what Trump could have on him.
