What did you expect? Joy & happiness?
On a day when all Americans celebrated the largest prisoner exchange with Russia since the Cold War, one narcissist we all know, was mute.
No....he wasn't silent about the event itself. Not by a long shot. He was quick to take to his social media page and disparage the multinational effort to free these people.
Trump wrote on Truth Social Thursday. "Our 'negotiators' are always an embarrassment to us!" he wrote, without elaborating. "I got back many hostages, and gave the opposing Country NOTHING – and never any cash."
There was not any money given to anyone in this agreement, nor were there any sanctions lifted.
Trump was successful in getting a number of hostages released during his term. Exchanges with Iran, the Taliban, the Houthis, and Turkey, retuned prisoners back to their families and loved ones. We are grateful for that.
The point I want to make is this: Trump has yet to show any happiness or joy for these people being reunited with their loved ones. None.
Trump again proves that he is void of any empathy or compassion. His lack of any humanity is appalling.
I did not expect him to acknowledge the success of President Biden's diplomacy in this historical event. That would be expecting too much.
His failure to be happy for his fellow Americans, is sadly, what we should have expected. Again, he did not disappoint. That is who Donald Trump is. He shows us time and time again. Trump is a damaged soul, absent of any trace of humanity.
America deserves better.
Update: It took him a while but Trump made this statement to Fox News:
Trump told Maria Bartiromo of Fox Business Network: “Well as usual, it was a win for Putin or any other country that deals with us. But we got somebody back, so I’m never going to be challenging that … I think it’s wonderful that Evan’s coming back. I think it’s great. But these deals are so bad. These deals are going to lead to tremendous kidnappings.”
Interesting that he only mentioned Evan Gershkovich, but left out Paul Whelan (who was imprisoned during his term) and Alsu Kurmasheva. I guess they don't count, but at least he was happy for Evan.
