Pasadena has the world first 100% EV police fleet. As thousands remain homeless.

Photo above – Pasadena, like other cities in proximity to Los Angeles, has an intractable homeless problem. The solution? Buy dozens of EV police cars!

Save money! Save money! That’s what the Pasadena city government was chanting when they scrapped their existing police cars, and replaced them with brand new Teslas. (see link below). Are the city fathers even AWARE that Elon Musk has pulled up stakes and decamped to Texas? No matter . . . those Tesla Model Y’s are pretty darn fast (if you get the dual motor upgrade) and can chase down a mustang or a camaro. But probably not a Porsche or Ferrari. Pasadena scofflaws - watch out!

But top speed isn’t why Pasadena went all EV. They claim it will save HUGE money in their budget.

Ahem – the executives over at Hertz would like to have a word. They just liquidated their entire Tesla rental fleet. After 2 years of evaluation, they concluded that Teslas have more “downtime”, and are MUCH more costly to repair than normal cars. I believe the liquidation sale was completed earlier this year.

I’ve pointed out numerous times before that California politicians are some of the dumbest SOBs on earth. They have the highest taxes, the highest spending, the slowest 911 response times, mass shoplifting, 1/3 of the entire nation’s homeless . . . and now an all-electric police fleet. They didn’t even bother starting with 2 or 3 cars to see how it goes. They bet the entire pot on this dubious hand.

Well, why not? It’s not THEIR money. It’s the taxpayer's money. If this doesn’t work out the city can just sell off the Tesla’s, and go back to the Ford Explorers or Chevy Tahoes or whatever they were using before. The taxpayers will probably forgive and forget.

I’m not going to pretend that the several millions of dollars spent on "One-Adam-12" Tesla prowl cars would have solved the homeless problem. This is simply a practical decision. A bunch of residents inf Pasadena already have EVs, and they want the city to follow suit. And the homeless don’t vote, anyway. Put your government spending where it counts when preparing for election day, I guess.

I’m just sayin’ . . .

One has nothing to do with the other.

Come back when you have learned correlation is not causation.
