JimboSaturn The release of covid was their trial run. China does not do things haphazardly. They do something, then sit back and study the results of what they did. They're doing the same thing with Russia. They sit back and look at what's happening/has happened with Russia and Ukraine and studying the US and European responses. This way they know whast to expect when they decide to take over Taiwan.
As far as their own people, Asians as a rule are more willing to give up their lives for their country than most other nations are. And with the largest population on the planet, they don't worry about that.
As far as their economy, once they take over, there would be a new economy and it would be whatever they decide they feel it should be. Why would they buy from other countries when if they take over the world, they would be in charge of everything anyway. It would most likely be a cashless society/economy.
