Is Trump still Hitler?

MILWAUKEE, July 15 (Reuters) - Eight years ago, in the lead-up to the 2016 presidential election, J.D. Vance was a bitter critic of Donald Trump.
Publicly, he called the Republican presidential candidate an "idiot" and said he was "reprehensible." Privately, he compared him to Adolf Hitler.
But by the time the former president tapped Vance to be his running mate on Monday, the Ohio native had become one of Trump's most ardent defenders, standing by his side even when other high-profile Republicans declined to do so.

@RockerDad Because he updated his opinion of Trump? I used to not think much of Trump when he quickly went from 1 marriage to 3. Then he got into politics and did a great job. He loses money in public office while Biden has made millions.

@graphite I don't believe JD compared him to Hitler.

@graphite I think Vance had it right in the first place. Also, most of the major GOP figures were falling all over themselves to kiss Trump’s ring. The rest of them left politics. I can probably count all of the moderate republicans in congress on one hand now.

@DogMan I think Trump is closer to Mussolini than Hitler, but my opinion of Trump has only gotten lower over the past eight years.

@RockerDad Mussolini had Italy partnering with Germany in a failed WWII effort and banned opposition parties. Please detail for us how many wars Trump has gotten us into and how many opposition parties he has banned.

@graphite he has threatened to jail his political opponents,, journalists, etc, replace civil servants with loyalists…sounds like fascism to me.

@RockerDad Please tell us how many political opponents, journalists, etc he has jailed and how many civil servants has replaced (other than failed FBI director Comey). Meanwhile, Democrats want to put Republicans in re-education camps. Biden has demanded that Trump be put in a "bull's eye," something that just happened. So you have no wars Trump has gotten into and no political opposition he has banned, while his political opposition has used Soviet Union tactics and prosecuted him for nonsense.

@RockerDad Yes, it is nonsense. A prosecutor in NYC who lets criminals roam free while looking for nonsense charges against Trump, document-hounding charges just dismissed, etc. Meanwhile, Biden's influence-peddling and document-hounding go unprosecuted, along with the allegations made by Tara Reade.

Republican JD Vance, picked by Donald Trump as his running mate for the US elections, has been kind to the former president in the past. A harsh critic in the past, the Ohio Senator had called Trump a "moral disaster" and "America's Hitler".
But now a Vice-Presidential nominee, he finds himself "overwhelmed with gratitude" to be running alongside Trump. "What an honour...he delivered peace and prosperity once, and with your help, he'll do it again," said a confident Vance on X.

A White House candidate usually picks a running mate who can appeal to new voters or compensate for weaknesses in image or policy - though Trump has picked a white conservative like himself.

In a 2016 message to a former law school roommate, Vance had said he went "back and forth between thinking Trump is a cynical as***le like Nixon who wouldn't be that bad (and might even prove useful) or that he's America's Hitler," Washington Post reported.
