Neither, because neither have any relevance today nor ever did.
There is no such thing as "The United States" because the entire concept of a democracy is the opposite of uniting, which is why the USA is not actually united within it's democratic process... because it can't be by definition!
To 'unite' means to bring together as one, but in a democracy, both sides are suppose to oppose each other which is what democracy means... to have opposing views and to stand in support of a party which supports your own political views.
The only true political system that can be called "united" is a dictatorship, where everyone agrees with the dictator whether you agree with him or not. Those who live within a dictatorship government are united in purpose and intent as dictated by that country's government.
For anyone to think that they can unite the people of the United States of America, simply doesn't understand the concept of a democracy in the first place.

In democracy a country is governed and controlled by an organization elected by the majority of the population, then unity finds its concept is the context of democracy … because people who believe in democracy accept the choice of the majority while using their freedom to disagree with their planning, strategies, and way of controlling the country for a certain time …
Not correct … people usually oppose the dictator leaders and government … they might unite against oppression but never with the dictatorship … believe me and take my word for it …
