Keir Starmer's Labour is like Southgate's Engand team.

Play it as safe as possible, with the least possible style whilst promising nothing and get over the line by beating poor opposition. Yes, they did win.

If only they had something on the left...

I have been disappointed with him in opposition.

However I will say I'm so far happy. Good to see people like John Timpson and Patrick Valance brought in. And ministers hitting the ground running speaking good things. Now..... Let's see what actually happens...

@OldBrit I agree generally.. But I don't like the idea of appointing a left-wing crony as Attorney-General (the Attorney ought to be willing to say no to the PM); and the appointment of Vallance, one of the architects of the disastrous lockdown policy, sticks in my craw.
Royrogers · 61-69, M
@MartinII why not appoint the shadow attorney general who knows the job?
Elessar · 26-30, M
This is suddenly a compliment

Not even formally a PM yet and he fixed your football already!
Burnley123 · 41-45, M
@Elessar Yes. Thanks, I'm going to delete this post.

Bit of a cheek saying they inherited the worst economy since the last world war. I recall Danny Alexander , coalition cancellor saying labour had spent the lot and we went into recession. That was not the tories fault

@Royrogers A Lieral now forgotten, hopefully the Liberals under Ed Davey will be better than under Nick Cegg, Danny , and dear old Vince Cable.
MartinII · 70-79, M
@Royrogers Also, what is the explanation? There are several, of course, but the main one is the disastrous series of lockdowns which Labour supported and wanted to be even longer and more severe.
Royrogers · 61-69, M
@MartinII that’s part of it. But labour spent money the country didn’t have
So basically the British version of Tom Mulcair. Got it.

And I get the sentiment.

In Canada even the policies of the Communist Party are almost the same as the NDP. The only difference is the CPC actually wants to implement the NDP platform. lol

But we don't really have a serious left in the traditional sense.

Let us hope they have more talent than Southgate’s team. Starmer has more people to choose from.
I agree though, dull, boring and effective.

You can compare Starmer with Clem Attlee. Let us hope he does not burn himself out.

dull, boring and effective...
... is exactly what I would want any administration to be like. I'll go to the movies when I want something entertaining.
Burnley123 · 41-45, M
@SW-User Starmer has Attlee's charisma and Cameron's politics.
Elessar · 26-30, M
But Southgate is in the semis 🫠
Royrogers · 61-69, M
@Elessar not by match play but by penalties
Elessar · 26-30, M
@Royrogers We won the 2020 tournament playing against Southgate with the pens and not the play too 🫠

It's the rules
Royrogers · 61-69, M
@Elessar yes it is the rules. But is it something to be proud of ?
So basically only far left is left?
Burnley123 · 41-45, M
@BritishFailedAesthetic They've purged people on the soft left and accepted Tory spending plans.
@Burnley123 Nah, I think they're more fiscally expansive aren't they?
