"This week’s Supreme Court decision in Trump v. United States, which grants Presidents and former Presidents absolute immunity for their core constitutional powers, marks a dangerous turning point in our nation’s history.

"This ruling fundamentally alters our democracy by clearly placing individuals above the law. As Justice Jackson powerfully stated in her dissent, "Presidents alone are now free to commit crimes when they are on the job, while all other Americans must follow the law in all aspects of their lives, whether personal or professional."

"This decision is just the latest in a series of devastating rulings from the Supreme Court, including rulings that have undermined decades of legal precedent, weakened federal agencies’ ability to regulate policies that keep businesses in check, created a chaotic and restrictive landscape for abortion rights nationwide, and enabled insurrectionists by weakening the government’s ability to prosecute them.

"To be frank, the Supreme Court has shown a blatant disregard for humanist values, the separation of church and state, the rule of law, and our democratic institutions. This Christian nationalist majority on the Court has attacked the fundamentals of our constitutional republic, potentially granting immunity to a former President for his role in the January 6th insurrection and signaling a dangerous new chapter of lawlessness and corruption."
