After the jury was sent out, Judge Merchan severely admonished Todd Blanche. Merchan had to give curative instructions to the jury.

If a hung jury results, a re-trial is essentially guaranteed.

Maybe they want a retrial which they can then seek to be delayed till after the election. That would give them more chance to sweep it under the rug and make it go away.
