@Vin53 I was referring to the shame the post WW2 Germans were forced to grow up with. (We didn’t do that to Japan). Look at any photo of merkel and describe her facial expression in one word. Its shame .

@AthrillatheHunt You don't think that was inevitable? And Japan most certainly suffered in the same context. Both countries had brutally murdered millions of citizens, face to face. The world had every right to disdain of these countries whole faced.

@Vin53 we propped up Japan big time. Forgave them immediately and had them build factories so they could stay busy and prosper . No trials , no reparations (Germany still gives money to survivors as reparations ).
Of course this was Germany’s second mistake and only Japan’s first , so we learned from our mistake of what we did to Germany after the first time .

My point is we treated the 2 countries very differently post WW2. We didn’t punish Japan at all . We gave them the blueprint for their success in the latter half of the 20 century. And they followed it to a t.

@Vin53 I agree. But we def treated them better than we did the krauts. No Japanese version of Nuremberg . No annexation of half their country . No reparations in perpetuity. No flood of foreign “workers “ into their country (Germany got the Turks mostly ). We let them rebuild themselves .
We did put military bases in Japan like we did in Germany though .

Japan was the smart move.
