China had nukes during Vietnam. Neither side resulted to them.
Please don't say that China wasn't directly involved in Vietnam. It was the only reason why the USA lost Vietnam.
That would be like saying the USA is not directly involved in Ukraine now.

@sree251
Western social media is mostly western views. I am insulated from social media in China or Japan because I can't speak Chinese or Japanese. I am sure India has a huge social media inaccessible to me.

Bunk!
I don't understand Japanese at all! Yet I do watch NHK! I don't understand Polish at all yet I do watch PTV. I don't understand Arabic at all, yet I do read articles on Al Jezeerah!
I can go further but it's a waste of time! Yes India has several English article sites! They where once a British colony.
But you don't read!

@DeWayfarer
we have nothing more to discuss than
It's a pity that you are running away. If you have discovered the right perspective, you would want to share that. I never run away from any discussion. I doubt Richard Eagleman would want to talk to me about his perception of time. He is a neuroscientist. He believes that the brain is the seat of perception. If what he says is true, then there are two realities: a perceptual reality presented by the brain, and a material reality behind the perceived one. How is David going to confront experimental observations in quantum physics?
David can deal with non-academics. His specialty of neuroscience is a very small space in the field of knowledge. He is basically a psychologist and not to be confused with a neurologist which is a rigorous profession requiring a medical degree.

You are accessing foreign social media in English. Yours is a western perception of the world in which other cultures exist. It is similar to your brain perception of reality as portrayed by David Eagleman. Your perceived reality is not the actual reality. You can never see the Japanese world or the Chinese world as seen by the Japanese or the Chinese respectively. Our rules based order is incomprehensible to them.
This has been a good discussion.

A war with Taiwan would be over super fast. It's one little island. Invade from every direction, throw soldiers at it, bomb all the airports and armed emplacements and take out their defences. It would be over before the first Aircraft carrier could get there.

The US can't even whip Vietnam or Afghanistan. They better stick with bullying the Falklands.
JamesBugman · 56-60, T
@NoThanksLeon You are right about Vietnam and Afghanistan, but Falklands was a UK thing. haha
NoThanksLeon · M
@JamesBugman The US was involved. haha

Taiwan is an economic and political threat to China i doubt the U.S. gives it a second thought
justanothername · 51-55, M
Hopefully diplomacy will enable a better outcome than any war could achieve.
sree251 · 41-45, M
@justanothername Congress is a war machine. Pelosi visited Taiwan against White House's advice. Money politics drive US foreign policy. American perception of China as enemy is being shaped for targeting China's government.
justanothername · 51-55, M
@sree251 To some degree China is the enemy and yes the US, and many businesses around the world have hi tech manufacturing interests in Taiwan which need to be protected from Chinese invasion of Taiwan.

@jshm2 It is not a matter of whether or not the USA can mess around with China. What is the rationale for making it our business if the Chinese on both sides of the Taiwan straits want to work it out among themselves? Both sides have been living in peace since their civil war ended in 1949.
China was our ally in WW2 fighting Japan. The US agreed that Japan had to give up Taiwan and returned it to China. Our "One China Policy" of 1979 reaffirmed China as legal government of all China's territories. We have now pivoted to a policy of "strategic ambiguity" towards Taiwan because we need an excuse to go to war with China.
Have you ever messed around with someone in the public space? You feel you can take him on and start giving him the evil eye just because you have a gun and he can see you carrying it.
