What happens when Governments raise taxes on big Corporations?

We know many people love to see Corporations pay higher taxes, but do those
same people see any benefit from it?

corporations only serve to make money for their shareholders... they have no allegiance to the country, the people, the enviroment or the free market.
every corpo at all times strives to become a monopoly and crush all competition to increase the money for the shareholders.
you dont need to be an economist to understand that this is in no way sustainable and it will lead to instabilty and crashing the market. it always has... it always will...
taxes are one way to regulate these exploits and protect the state and the population from corporations.

@FreeLilly OK so, Corporations sell product to people, no one is forced to but their products,
but they need consumers to stay alive. Yes, we need protection from monopolies, but we
also need competition to keeps prices in check. Also, anyone that has a 401K, Roth IRA etc
is also a share holder. I sure hope that YOU are a share holder, I know I AM.
FreeLilly · 18-21, F
@DogMan yes.. we need competition... corporations hate competition and they do everything to crush a free market. they do not care for you or your 401k, they are not your friend. you are merely tolerated as long as you are a nice little peasant who consumes and does their bidding.
national states have their origin in giving the power to the people instead of a small group of aristocrats, especially as an american you should understand that. the country is the people... with elected leaders. instead of kings or ceos that inherit their power and wealth.

@FreeLilly I believe that corporations are more friendly to consumers, than Government is
to it's people. If you don't trust corporations, you definitely should not trust Government.

Corporations cannot MAKE you do anything. Governments, CAN!
FreeLilly · 18-21, F
@DogMan the goverment is the people... in democracies at least. so yeah people can agree on policies and changes they vote on and the goverment makes sure these things happen... thats the whole point of a democracy. corporations are not friendly... they dont care for you, why would they.
DogMan · 61-69, M
@FreeLilly Corporations care more about consumers, than government cares about its people.

You sound like someone that would love to have the Government take over all industry.

Do you really think that would be good for the people?
FreeLilly · 18-21, F
@DogMan i believe in a free market... and the only way to have a free market if its protected by strong regulatuions. if you support corporations its the same like supporting monarchists in the 18th century... sure some might not be all that evil, but the system is all about hoarding wealth, power and control. if you believe in liberty, free speech and an open market you will only have that if its protected by a strong goverment that is elected by the people.

@FreeLilly There’s two types of monopolies. There’s illegal ones like Microsoft and Intel in the mid to late 90s where Bill Gates made sure that you could only buy a PC running Windows OS on an Intel Processor. ALL PC hardware manufacturers had to sell their boxes with Windows OS or else they wouldn’t survive.
Bill Gates got hauled in front of a senate inquiry over his illegal monopoly. He debated the issue.

And there are legal monopolies or Duopoly’s aka Google/samsung/ Android phones vs Apple iPhone. Customers can still buy Nokia or some other brand, or they can buy an Android phone or an iPhone. That’s called a competitive market.

Shareholders. Share holders are not just rich investment funds. Share holders are also individual investors with Robinhood share trading accounts who buy one or two shares at each purchase.

Big companies get their products assembled in China, India, Mexico, Vietnam, Taiwan because the workers are faster, more cost effective and smarter than low skilled slow American workers.

@therighttothink50 How did Orwell know that?

@FreeLilly The state actually DOES send jobs to the far east. They are the ones who
raise taxes, and increase regulations, to the point where it is not worth staying. There has
to be a common sense balance, that works for America, not China.

@justanothername It's funny how people that hate corporations, do not see that their own
401k's, Roth IRA's, etc. also make money from successful corporations. Or are we to believe
that only the poor and destitute, hate corporations? Or maybe, just maybe, these goofballs
are slamming the profits of corporations, that they also benefit from. The left would rather
force companies off shore, it seems like.

What's the alternative? Abolish all business structures and replace them with government entities?
DogMan · 61-69, M
@FreeLilly Lilly, when you get older, you will see that government is the only entity that
has power over you, and they are not as "Good" as you believe they are. Sure, like
business, there are good ones, and bad ones. But Businesses will never have power over
you, or make laws and regulations that you have to abide by, weather you like it or not.

I'm sure we would both give away a ton of money if we were billionaires. I give away a
lot of money and labor, to those that I care about, mostly animal rescue groups. But I
do not want to be forced to give away more money every year, when the government
already takes in far more than it needs.
FreeLilly · 18-21, F
@DogMan you have been brainwashed into thinking corporates and rich people are you
are friends... you are the goverment.. you are the nation... their mistakes are your mistakes. if your goverment is corrupt then fix that... but do not listen to propaganda that tries to tell you that rich people care for you in anyway
DogMan · 61-69, M
@FreeLilly 🤣 Again Corporations have no power over you. Maybe this meme will help you
understand.
FreeLilly · 18-21, F
@DogMan when you talk about capitalism.. you talk about a small family owned business, maybe even a big one with like 20 shops set up all over the country. they are rich and thats all well deserved. they make a product, care for this product and they improve the product cause they are proud of it.

but thats not a thing anymore since the 80s... time moved on but you somehow got left behind which is a pity.

today a corporation is managed by shareholders and CEO which do not care about the product, the employees or the customers. they not even hiding that, they openly state that everywhere. they only ever care for the shareholders. thats the only thing that matters. and if more money means making the product worse... they do that all the time. i bet you found yourself saying things like "they dont do xy like they used to do" and you are right.. they dont, because they can make more money with selling you trash.

you are stuck to an enterprise model that is great but completely outdated and you dont find that anymore in the globalized world. i would love it if things still worked like you idolize them, but open your eyes. corporations are ruining traditional communities that held jobs for generations and move them somewhere else just because they can... because we allow them to do this.
DogMan · 61-69, M
@FreeLilly Hmmm, you act like all businesses are run by giant corporations.
Small businesses are alive and well in the U.S. and still make up the majority
of all business. You are wrong about corporations though, they bend to public
pressure. When their product sales go down, they find the problem people
have with it, and fix it.
Heartlander · 80-89, M
@DogMan Also when corporations cut back on quality, whether for financial gain or because they think it's the only option they may have; it's a step towards the end of that corporation's existence. To look at all the once giant corporations that are no more, or the US industries that are no more, once they start cutting corners on the quality of their product or service it's the beginning of the end.
Reason10 · 61-69, M
@DogMan @DogMan You are essentially correct. And most of the jobs in America are created by small businesses.
FreeLilly · 18-21, F
@DogMan when we talk about business... you talk about old pop and his hardware store, or the guy that has run a company for generations and is the lifeblood of a community. those are great and i agree with most of what you say...

when i talk about corpos.. i talk about big pharma companies, google, apple, general motors, nestle... those that dabble into politics all over the world that bribe political influencers and buy small countries to exploit them
DogMan · 61-69, M
@FreeLilly Would you rather have our government running those corporations?
