It's private property so I don't have a problem with this. If this person had a microphone that means there was some kind of sound system in use and in a residential area that could be disturbing the peace.

The property may be private but it was let to the university who paid for the dinner event meant for the graduating class. The students were attending a university event. The professor was out of line.
