If you are attending a political rally and a person behind you throws feces into the face of the candidate and you are wrongly arrested and convicted of the ass ault, what would the potential repercussions for you be?

Those are the repercussions - jail time and everything that entails. There is an inherent risk in attending any demonstration, including arrest, injury, or death.
