The same can be said for Joe Six Pack in his red MAGA hat who wails about immigrants taking their jobs and others being on welfare as he collects his unemployment checks; rather than acknowledging his high school education or less and lack of better skills have failed to equip him for an ever evolving and changing workplace. Certainly his cultural upbringing to believe that a simple rural, small town, basic job in a technology-free workplace was good enough for his father, grandfather, and great grandfather has influenced his inability to evolve as well, but it still comes down to his individual choices not to seek more education, training, or re-training. As you say, you can only blame colonizers or cultural backgrounds for so much, but then you cannot totally eliminate it either.

You're completely negating the cultural and psychological effects of colonisation on a subjugated people, negative effects that last for generations. There's been many psychological studies on its impact. The National Geographic published an article on it in 2019 (reprinted in 2023):

"However, coercion and forced assimilation often accompanied those gains, and scholars still debate colonialism’s many legacies. Colonialism’s impacts include environmental degradation, the spread of disease, economic instability, ethnic rivalries, and human rights violations—issues that can long outlast one group’s colonial rule.

As South Asia historian John McQuade writes, “It takes a highly selective misreading of the evidence to claim that colonialism was anything other than a humanitarian disaster for most of the colonized.”"

@sladejr how would you like it if I Invaded your house and property and claim it's my house and my property and that you have no claim to it, no you wouldn't like it either, that's what colonialism is, occupation of land and also stealing land and mass destruction and genocide.

The point is to learn about our nation's dark past....the 'backside' of American history...the 'bad and the ugly' in addition to the 'good and great' and to make sure that the bad and ugly are never allowed to happen again.

In Germany, students are taught about the Holocaust, they visit museums, and they visit concentration camp sites. Why? To learn....to understand...to make sure it never happens again.
How about you consider it from the other side?
