Predictions for Election 2024

1. Voter turnout way down on 2020, and probably lower than at any time since WW2.

2. Trump’s support will remain relatively stable, although probably less than in 2020.

3. Biden’s support will collapse, mainly due to his stance on Israel, with Democrat voters turning more to progressive third-party choices.

4. Independent turnout will also be way down.

5. Biden will probably still win the popular vote, but the EC will ensure Trump wins by a landslide.

I hope I’m wrong.

Sadly, I agree on all counts. Like many Americans, I hope for both parties finding better candidates, but am not optimistic. These two are the best we can do? How sad is that. And after trunp wins he pardons himself and stops all legal challenges...but his growing dementia, which is now in the beginning stages, make him more and more unfit...and whoever his vice president is eventually takes over...all this is so sad for regular Americans who care and work and believe in democracy...

@Docdon23 I can't understand America – why is it becoming a gerontocracy?? There are no 50 year old experienced men and women to rule the country? 😐

@helenS Ohhh I wish and hope...but sadly, few qualified people want to run--it is such a grueling and destructive process now with the biased (both ways) media and, sadly many people believing the lies they are told...convinced the country is falling apart...which it is not...

@Docdon23 I think we have a similar problem over here in Europe. It's becoming increasingly difficult to even find people who are willing to become politicians. Younger people go either into financial business or NGOs.
Politicians are believed to be corrupt – although it would be easy to find out you won't get rich by becoming a politician. And all that hate.
Much better to stay out of the political circus. It's pretty sad 😕

@helenS virtue signalling is at a fever pitch
helenS · 36-40, F
@MasterLee It's because good people no longer go into politics 😐

@helenS maybe but the system devolved due to false reporting .
Docdon23 · M
@helenS I agree.
Docdon23 · M
@MasterLee I do agree with that but also think that is what has caused what Helen said--fewer people want to go into politics because they know they will be ripped apart, often by false reporting...I am actually a local elected official and as honest and compromising as can be but got ripped recently on social media for caring about homeless people more than this lady's taxes...to which i say true, and proud of it...

@helenS Totally agree. I am a moderate with some left tendencies (not on every issue though) and want only to serve the public--I am on a Board of education and care deeply about our kids...yet politics is so negative I will probably never run again...we are divided and bitter, neither of which is true of me...both parties are guilty...no room for compromise and working out solutions, which is what I have always tried to do

@Docdon23 Most people say I'm a moderate right-winger, but those left+right categories don't mean much these days. The real question is, are you republican (please note the lowercase "r") or are you in favor of an authoritarian government where Fearless Leader restlessly fights "for the people".

@helenS I agree about the labels. I am far left on some issues, moderate on some, and very conservative on others. I was always struck by the woman's choice and death penalty dichotomy. I believe all life is sacred and special and we do not have the right to ever take it away...so I oppose the death penalty (and yes, some dangerous people need to be removed from society for life) but also oppose abortion (although we need to redefine when life starts, due to modern medicine) except in rare cases (but also yes, it is a woman's body and she has a right to it)...neither left or right would agree with me on both!

@Docdon23 Thank you for seeing it that way Doc. People on the left that are pro-abortion
and anti death penalty, seem sick to me. Although I have a different stance.

I believe in capital punishment, and though I do not agree with abortion personally, I
shudder to think what would have happened if 60 million unborn, unwanted babies
had been born to people that did not want them. There would not be enough
adopters to adopt them all.
