Mexicans, and other central Americans, have been crossing back and forth across the border for about 300 years. The hysteria about securing the border is largely nonsense, an invention of right-wing politicians to manipulate their followers.

The south-west region was Mexican territory until the war of 1848, in which Mexico lost those lands. But many Mexicans still think of it as their territory.

I am in favor of sensible immigration restrictions. But I will never participate in hating immigrants. Whipping up fear and hate of immigrants is an evil act. Negotiation is the best way to manage the situation.

@badminton It was not a problem when they are we crossed back and forth, it became a problem when caravans of people crossed with no intent of going back and took advantage of what we have to offer.

@badminton how do you explain record numbers of illegals? Deport the illegal aliens .

@Johnson212 What do you think about this MAGA? Change your opinion in any way?
Naaaah. Of course it won't.

@specman I'm not afraid of immigrants. I have worked with many Mexicans and Central Americans. The great majority are just ordinary people who want a job and work hard. I am in favor of screening people coming into the country. And moderate, sensible restrictions on immigration. What I will NEVER do is join in hysteria, hate and fear.
Many immigrates are refugees, fleeing violence and corruption in their home countries. We need the United Nations to step in and aid the common people in failed states.

@badminton the record numbers of illegal aliens should be deported no matter what. I don’t care if they want jobs.

@badminton Solid.

@badminton You can have sensible restrictions until you control who crosses the border. If you can't do that everything else is a waste and just because you are ok with your taxes going to pay for the influx does not mean it is OK for you to decide mine should be spent there.

@Johnson212 We can debate the best policies for the southern border. I'm open to hearing ideas. What is not debatable is whipping up fear and hate of immigrants. That is fundamentally evil. I will never tolerate percussion and violence directed at refugees and immigrants.

FYI - Unless you are a full-blooded native American you are decended from immigrants.
Johnson212 · 61-69, M
@badminton More advanced civilizations have have replaced less advanced civilizations since the dawn of man so don't get hung up on native americans owning the country. It belongs to who can take it, hold it and are willing to bleed for it to keep it. You like immigration so much invite them to your house.

@Johnson212 So, Manifest Destiny....God ordained that white men take the land by any means necessary, because it had the Seal of Approval from God.

@sladejr You are wrong. The native people were the first human beings in North America. That's makes them the original inhabitants.
Savages? Who were the real savages? Read history, then think about it. The "Indians" were not the aggressors. Look at how they were treated.
If it were up to me, I'd go back to the original treaties and give what was promised. Shamefully, U.S. administrations broke treaties with the native peoples. Any government that breaks their treaties is NOT legitimate.

@Johnson212 Again, fear, hate, hysteria. People are aways at their worst when they are afraid.

We need diplomats negotiating with the immigrant's countries of origin. This is a job for the United Nations. In the meantime, while waiting to be deported back to their country of origin, they should receive food, water, medical care. Humane treatment. That's how you make loyal friends.

@badminton who cares - they lost.

The End
badminton · 61-69, MVIP
@sladejr One day that will be the U.S. All empires fall eventually. It would be a really good idea to earn some good will for when that happens. The U.S. has 6% of the world's populaion. That means 94% is someone else. Treating the rest of the world with hate, fear and contempt will not serve us well.

Precisely.

All the more reason to keep them out

The same unelected billionaires controlling the central banks and military industrial complex, are funding the illegal migrant invasion. Look at the people crossing. Do they look like they walked thousands of miles. No. They look like tourists waiting in line for a ride at Disney Land.
Johnson212 · 61-69, M
@badminton There is a difference in crossing back and forth and in crossing and staying in the numbers we see today.

@Johnson212 I’m guessing Native Americans felt the same way. You’re now benefiting from someone taking what the US had to offer!
