Contemporarily I’d say Obama. Competence, intelligence, grace, wit, family man. Yup.
FDR for his leadership in WW 2.
Clinton for being such a gifted politician. Best I’ve ever seen.
JFK for the style, Cuban Missile Crisis, speeches, the space race.

FDR was a real Jim Crow baby. He would have been very comfortable in 1830 slave days.
From the River to the Sea and From the Sea to the River Jordan.

@Diotrephes Are you in a home of some kind? Take your vitamin and rest.

You don't know very much about American history, do you?
FDR was so racist he wouldn't let Black American citizens fight White Nazis or even work in industries that were making weapons to fight them. He excluded almost all Blacks from particpating in the Social Security system. He would have been more honest if he had worn a KKK outfit.

@Diotrephes You probably think Columbus should have worn a BLM t-shirt. Talk about not understanding how history works. Again, nap time.

OK, professor would you be so kind as to explain how history works?

@Diotrephes You are engaging is what we historians call “The Whig Interpretation of History,” a hugely influential book by Herbert Butterfield.
“Historians have passed their own judgements on issues from a different period. Butterfield shows this and proposes that it is actually the role of the historian to analyse events on their own terms, meaning not to make judgements based upon today’s standards.”

What is wrong is always wrong and always will be wrong. FDR was a lousy human then and he is a lousy person now.

@Diotrephes I’m just glad you don’t teach children history. You are really bad at it.

Maybe that is why they are so ignorant about history.

@Diotrephes I’d prefer they know nothing than your version of “good guys” and “bad guys.”
