Better said....keep people stupid and tjey are easily controlled.
That is done by banning books that teach things "they" do not want you to know. In Florida and almost every Red state now history books are banned because they mention blacks in our history. Books mentioning gays are banned. Books mentioning the Civil War and why it was even fought are banned. Math, Science and History books in all Red states are being replaced with the agenda the Republicans in those states want kids to know and anything in those books teach about tolerance, empathy, civil and equal rights those are banned under the guise of "it's teaching CRT". For right now that is already causing problems with a rounded education as a basis for college admittance.....later on it will be a huge problem as more and more high school kids graduate and want to go but for years they have no real exposure to truth in history.
trump inadvertently said the Republican idea of education best when he said in Utah at one of his rallies in 2015......."I like stupid people". The Republican Party does not want people to be intelligent enough to see thru the bullshit they feed their voters. For instance......" Trickle Down Economics will eventually help the poorest among us"....."tariffs are good for everyone"......(another Reagun favorite)...."massive debt is good for the economy"........"it won't hurt us at all financially if we give billionaires a free tax ride"........"if we drop taxes on businesses to zero the economy looms". (look at Kansas...Louisiana.....EVERY state who has done that...bankrupt....all of
