In my opinion, this only works if people are honest with themselves. In 2004 the "War on Terrorism" had begun just 3 years earlier, and no Sitting President had ever lost an election in the middle of a "War," so if we can all recall how we felt, and feard, terrorism at the time, then this poll might work.

Mostly due to foreign policy concerns. Yes, I supported the decision to go into Iraq. It was STILL the right thing to do. How we handled the aftermath (Cheney, Powell, Rumsfeld and Bremer screwed it up) was the problem.

But also because Kerry's disingenuous reasons for endorsing Barack Obama in the 2008 primaries. Don't pick someone to be a heartbeat away to the presidency should you have won in 2004, then NOT endorse that person four years later. Kerry MUST have known about John Edwards' affair. And had the mainstream media reported on it (the National Enquirer did), Edwards would have been finished. Hillary Clinton would have won the Iowa caucus, then the New Hampshire primary. Maybe she picks Obama to be her running mate, or maybe she picks Joe Biden. Either way, Hillary or John McCain is elected president in 2008 and likely serves two terms.

Mostly due to foreign policy concerns. George W. Bush's foreign policy was consistent with what nation has had since the end of World War II. A strong deterrence and maintaining strong alliances. President Biden is of that same mindset.

Obama took us a step back (Kerry would have as well). And Trump? He wants to take us back to the dangerous policy of isolationism that left us unprepared to face a changing and dangerous road in the late 1930s.

@beckyromero You think? Obama stayed in Afghanistan. In retrospect I do wish he had done more in reaction to Russia annexing Crimea.

I think Obama "grew" in office as president to see other viewpoints and listen to advice, but his instincts were to pull out. He certainly didn't see Afghanistan as a way to correct the missed opportunity when the Cold War with the Soviets ended.

Obama simply didn't want to deal with foreign policy. He wanted to GIVE everyone health insurance by requiring that everyone BUY it.

And, correct, he didn't rise to the occasion with regards to Crimea. If he had, I doubt Russia would have invaded the rest of Ukraine because they would have gotten a nasty taste of what they would have been in for.
