The Noose Is Tightening Around Iran. U.S. Aircraft Carrier Battlegroups Are on the Move.

While the USS Gerald R. Ford is staying in the Eastern Med for now (keeping a close eye on Syria), the USS Dwight D. Eisenhower will now head for the Arabian Sea once she and her escorts completes her transit of the Atlantic.

The USS Ronald Reagan battlegroup has left South Korea and is now operating in the Philippean Sea. It wouldn't take long for her battlegroup to join Eisenhower's if so desired.

And the USS Carl Vinson battlegroup has left San Diego and is now at sea around Hawai'i.

I read an article a few years back that pointed out that Iran has pretty sophisticated anti ship missile capabilities that could be very problematic especially for our carriers.
That being said, the battle groups are a show of military power. More optics than forces that will be used. I think if it reaches that stage ( use of our naval assets) it will put the world at the brink of WW 3. The Russians are either in or close to the area. Reportedly, China has some craft headed there. Iran? Who knows?
As for the tightening of the noose ; again talk about enforcing any sanctions the U.S. has on Iran might get their attention to not get involved in this with or by their proxies ( supposedly drones were fired from their proxies but were shot down. ) Were they fired at our ships or headed for Israel? Hopefully they were directed at Israel. If Iran is pulling strings that adversely or provocatively engage our military, this whole thing could get real dangerous. So if we can enforce sanctions if that is an option, it might be the best non confrontational way to do things.

Our carriers don't need to go into the Persian Gulf for their airpower to reach Iran. Nor even surface ships; our subs have plenty of Tomahawks they can launch.
