@Musicman Not because he's being protected by a secret cabal who will shield him from the arms of justice, but because the Republicans have made a dumpster fire out of a situation they have no right being in. Federal gun charges against a private citizen in order to harass a political leader. Revoked plea deals in favor of the spectacle of a trial. And this is all so they can get to Joe Biden, because they simply [i]can't [/i]any other way. That's the armor of integrity and character.

Trump's not on trial for [i]anything [/i]he said or thinks. He's charged with material crimes, things like obstruction, fraud and heading a scheme to obstruct the US election process. Where does speech come in, again?
We are further from a one-party system of politics than this country has [i]ever[/i] been. You can't cry civil war out of one side of your mouth and one party politics out of the other.

@Graylight The answer is simple. Just watch the news. They want to put a gag order on Trump and what he can say. Please don't tell me you haven't seen this. Also back during Covid California enacted a law making it illegal for doctors to say anything against the States stance on Covid.

@Musicman A gag order is a measure well within the scope of the court's power and is perfectly legal. Hell, you can be fully restrained and put in muzzle if you make too big a spectacle.
That's not the death of free speech. The 1st amendment has limitations and is not applicable everywhere under any circumstance. I'm sure you've read it and are also familiar with the workings of a criminal court. Trump, nor any of his associates, may leak information on jurors, potentially influencing the case and causing direct harm to those people. That has already occurred as many of them were doxxed and multiple death threats have been called in. Trump owns a dog whistle for extremists, this much was proven on Jan. 6th.

You don't understand the 1st amendment, so it can't be adequately explained to you, but rest assured high profile public agencies with the world's eye on them are not doing anything inappropriate. And when a single person with a single shred of evidence appears, that's when I'll believe in the GOP's petty little tantrum.
