First, the cultures of the original inhabitants is different. A seagoing Polynesian Culture recently arrived in New Zealand, as against an ancient dry land nomadic indo-asian race in Australia. The geography is vastly different and the nature of Industries is also seperate.. The distance apart is also problematic. The only common factor is the settlement by White men in the 1700s.. As friends there is a lot of cooperation. But trying to draw the two together would raise all kinds of tensions..😷
@Graylight Essentially the Maori are descendents of the Hawaiians, albeit adapted for a cooler climate. They Island hopped south and west and ended up in New Zealand tomorrow.. The Australian Aborigines essentially walked from Africa, evolving as they went.😷
It was actually part of the Colony of New South Wales....but tyranny of distance back then etc etc and NZ being free settled soon parted ways. The door was also left open at (Australian) Federation but NZ declined.
@whowasthatmaskedman Russell Crowe lives here but still can't get Australian Citizenship. Neil lives on a Vineyard in the South Island and Tim Finn lives in Auckland.
@whowasthatmaskedman Spends to much time away filming apparently. Quade Cooper who has lived here since age 12 twice was refused Citizenship despite playing 76 games for the Wallabies. After he won a couple more games for them he finally got Citizenship. Same problem too much time playing overseas ( Japan) Now that he has Citizenship he was dropped from the World Cup squad.
The USA just proposed breaking Brazil into six or seven more NATO friendly mini countries. It's your second amendment right to redesign every nation for your next war.
the cultural divide has become immense since the 60s .. in many ways, but the first that springs to mind is the difference in tolerating/encouraging racism
