Really? Which ones are they? And were they ever significant in world terms?

@ninalanyon yes there are examples going back centuries. Sometimes the go down with the country and in other cases a new currency is introduced.

As for significant examples it happened twice in France with the John law Livre and the Assignat.

@LeopoldBloom Not directly. Although it will reduce Americas abilility to meet it payment obligations.. And it could later be weaponized by countries like China, who hold US debt..😷

@whowasthatmaskedman Payments will still be accepted in dollars. The fact that the EU uses the Euro didn't affect the dollar in that way.

@LeopoldBloom Thats correct. Because the US$ is still the benchmark currency. But no matter what takes over, (and it could be gold, but probably not) The US will have to "buy" that currency with its fiat US$ and the exchange rate will work against the $. So you pay more $ to buy the same nuimber of Euros , Yuan or Pesos..That rasies the cost of all imports to America and thats a lot of stuff right there.. Those whole BRICS thing that is coming to the simmer in the background is to get enough critical mass to force this.. In an economic war, this will be Americas Armageddon.😷

@SpudMuffin It is an economic reset, the laws authorizing were passed I think in the late 90's to early 2000, and it was passed right before 9/11 happened....that is interesting. A lot of financial records were destroyed when the towers came down. That is interesting.

@SpudMuffin Yes it was, it was never implemented. The goal is to implement it soon. The globalist puppet masters have been holding it back, but perhaps BRICS is an opening to implement it not just in their nations but the world. I like the idea.

@SpiritualMan I disagree. There's a [i]conspiracy theory[/i] that some shadowy cabal of "elites" wants to reduce the population, but as you point out, this makes no sense as capitalism requires continuous growth. If the population is reduced, it will be catastrophic as it would only happen through nuclear war or some environmental disaster.

That being said, the population in the developed world is leveling off or even falling in some places. The only reason the US population is stable is because of immigration. The world population is expected to level off at around 11 billion by the end of this century, which will require a new economic model that isn't based on large numbers of young people supporting a small group of older people, which has been the case throughout human history. The demographic problem will be seen in places like Japan first, as their population ages, fewer Japanese have children, and immigration is discouraged. So how they solve it (or fail to solve it) will influence how other countries address this.

@LeopoldBloom Leveling off isn't the same as drastically reducing the population. Once certain levels of wealth have been reach, if the person has no desire to care about others, then they may make controlling others more important than acquiring new wealth.
