this is an old talk, but it's part of what convinced me we absoluely needed a Pirate party and not just some minor paarty that will be ignored but a major one that threatens the jobs of incumbent politicans.
The DRM and DMCA laws are deeply problematic laws, not because they prevent copyright infringement but because the lack of transparency is a security risk.
in Today's freaky age computers are not the end all of emerging techhnology and this sitution has not gotten better since this talk that has aged like fine wine was given.
As it has pointed out due to the DRM and DMCA for instance new tech to administer insuilin to diabetics was starting to be a thing in 2015 .
But there was no disclosure of the source code on those insulin pumps and so due to the lack of open source auditing nad everything else thedevice was not fit too be used at all since it could have potential security risk that coould enable a hacker to cause the insulin pump to overdose the diabetic on insulin by remote control.
We have a really big problem in this country where Tech is not treated as essential as it ought to be by politicans and NEITHER Party is really addressing the massive problems that DRM and the DMCA create in the Bio-tech space.
