You can only vote on one answer.

Yes, that person on the left had nearly been picked to the vice presidential nominee and would have almost certainly would have been his party'spresidential nominee eight years later.

Other questions:

Who does Donald Rumsfeld pick to be his running mate? Would it still be Dan Quayle? Remember, Michael Dukakis picked Lloyd Bensten before Vice President Bush named Dan Quayle to be on the ticket with him. So, the Democratic ticket doesn't change.

Here's a thought who Rumsfeld might have picked. Someone who he worked with during the Ford administration:

I think Rumsfeld is off-putting and Dukakis wins by a nose.

Does Dukakis screw up the aftermath of the Berlin Wall coming down or follow the cautious approach of President Bush (i.e not pushing the Soviets into a corner)? Or does Dukakis over-reach?

Does he get a Democratic Congress to help fund the re-building of Afghanistan (assuming we kept the pressue up on the Soviets by aiding the Afgahns to get the Soviets to withdraw)? Or follow the same policies of neglect after the Soviets withdrew?

If Dukakis wins, how does the Iraq War play out? We're still going in, of course, but how does he handle the post-war?

Does he win a second term (thus preventing a Bill Clinton presidency in 1992)?

Does Ross Perot still run in 1992?

There were even some thoughts of Russia joining NATO during the Yeltsin years. Can you imagine?!
