It's sooooo American to say something like...."just be more responsible" rather than digging into how it becomes and issue (required high interest rates) and what a good fix would be....Just turn your back on the problem and pretend it's really simple to fix....
@originnone Agreed. I mean the argument made by OP could be applied to someone in debt to a mob loan shark too. Doesn't make much sense.
irishmolly72 · 56-60, F
@PicturesOfABetterTomorrow So you advocate borrowing from mob loan sharks now? Brilliant idea!!! We really need you to help solve our fiscal crisis. 😅
irishmolly72 · 56-60, F
@originnone Nobody put a gun to their heads and made them take out a loan. That kind of thing only happens in the scenarios like loan sharking, which
PicturesOfABetterTomorrow apparently advocates.
JSul3 · 70-79
@irishmolly72 The cost of a college education is absurd. Only the elite can simply write a check, the rest of us have to take out a loan.
Gloomy · F
@irishmolly72 Conservatives like you don't understand coercion and think only direct threats and violence are forces that force people to do things and act certain ways.
I'd laugh if it weren't so stupid
irishmolly72 · 56-60, F
@JSul3 Then work on reducing costs, not on getting Biden bucks.
irishmolly72 · 56-60, F
@Gloomy No, confiscatory tax policy is coercive too. I agree.
originnone · 61-69, M
@irishmolly72 Mmmmm....I wouldn't say that. Often students who only teenagers take the advice of those who understand the perils of not having a college degree and take the loans that are sponsored and indeed recommended by their advisors. A long time ago (when I was 17) that was a good idea. When the paradigm changed due to exorbitant cost increases, the same advice and actions were given. And the interest rates were around 8% very recently in a world where the prime rate was about half that. Then the interest compounds on many because they're unable to pay....To blame a 17 year old for getting in that situation ignores the parameters that surround the education system in the US, and to turn ones nose up and talk about whether there was a gun to someone's head would seemed to over simplify the issues.
irishmolly72 · 56-60, F
@originnone There are these people called "parents". Ever heard of them?
originnone · 61-69, M
@irishmolly72 Yep, I personally know one who sent their three children through undergrad degrees, law school, and grad school....and took the loans themself so the children were not saddled with them. That person knows that not everyone has that opportunity AND that person knows other parents who took loans for their children and can't pay them back either. So, yeah, I know people called parents.

We can have a disagreement and remain civil, if you're willing to....
@irishmolly72 I see you missed the point again. It is your argument that can be used to defend loan sharks.
@irishmolly72 And anyone who thinks taxation is theft is not an educated adult. Societies are not funded by pixie dust. Unless you want to go back to funding countries with war plunder.
irishmolly72 · 56-60, F
@originnone The use of humor in the form of sarcasm has a long tradition in American political speech. Liberals use it constantly, but when conservatives do it is labeled hate or incivility. I am very happy to call out the Orwellian aspect of this.

@PicturesOfABetterTomorrow
Societies are not funded by pixie dust.

Is this enough pixie dust for you?

originnone · 61-69, M
@irishmolly72 Agreed....I think this is why Trump got momentum in 2016 with some folks toward the center. People got tired of the left saying whatever they wanted and the right had to be silent. Trump dropped the gloves.
@irishmolly72 And as always you post a meme that doesn't prove your point.
@originnone By dropping the gloves does that mean spend in 4 what other presidents spent in 8 and still managing to fuck up the largest healthcare crisis in the last 100 years?

After all, you are the ones panicking over big numbers you don't even understand where they come from.
@irishmolly72 And it is your party that was recently threatening to make the country default over childish nonsense like dick pics of the president's son.
originnone · 61-69, M
@PicturesOfABetterTomorrow To answer your question: No; and to address your comment, I am not.
irishmolly72 · 56-60, F
@PicturesOfABetterTomorrow The president's son is just the front man for the Biden Crime Family. The Dems are throwing him under the bus as I write this. I do agree that the budget process is broken and that neither side has an answer currently.

Funny how Yellen and Pelosi slipped in $1.7 Trillion in wasteful spending right before the Republican house took over in 2023. Then Janet piously warns against default several weeks later. What a pathetic joke. Her piety is completely disingenuous.
@irishmolly72 And more tin foil conspiracies with no evidence of any kind.

And as usual you have no clue what you are talking about.

It was the GOP threatening to crash the economy with the debt ceiling over high school level bullshit.
irishmolly72 · 56-60, F
@PicturesOfABetterTomorrow
no evidence of any kind.

You must be referring to the FBI Trump-Russia collusion hoax. Honest mistake.

And as always you post a meme that doesn't prove your point.

If you missed the perfect pixie dust/federal debt monetization analogy... I guess I just can't help you. Try to read it again. Slower this time.
@irishmolly72 Lol. Tell me without telling me you have no idea what you are talking about.

Your entire argument on taxation.

"Taxes are theft" Meanwhile every society in history except for those relying on plunder and tributes have been financed by what? TAXATION,
