"Cultural Marxism"

The Right uses “Marxism” to describe everything from LGBTQ rights to corporate diversity measures. It’s a deeply confused definition. But it’s not wrong about one thing: Marxists do indeed want to dismantle all forms of oppression.

The American right’s long tradition of red-baiting has always involved branding any kind of efforts at progressive social change, from the mild liberal variety to the genuinely radical, as socialist or communist. One of the most conspiratorial forms of this idea — with roots in the Nazis’ antisemitic theory of “Judeo-Bolshevism” — goes under the name “cultural Marxism.” That’s the theory that Jewish leftists fleeing Nazi Germany, including Frankfurt School theorists, plotted to subtly indoctrinate Americans in Marxist ideology, which they intentionally and surreptitiously rebranded in less-scary “cultural” forms like feminism and black liberation.

In other words, radical Jewish immigrant professors are behind all the movements for greater civil rights and social equality, which are actually a secret vehicle for the imposition of Soviet-style communism in the United States. There’s no evidence to back up this conspiracy theory, but that hasn’t interfered with its staying power. The cultural Marxist is just too attractive to the Right, tying together many of its favorite bogeymen into a neat story. The theory might not possess the mythology of the QAnon universe, but its utility for right-wing ideologues has kept it in play for the better part of a century.

Just like a marxist to spread the idea that it's just an antisemitic conspiracy. The thing is the lady behind that idea follows a line of guilt by association and conflates too much to be taken seriously.

So of course you'd try to make people think it's not happening because if people are aware of it then it fails. Ain't nobody got to be Jewish to be following Frankfurt logic and to be a cultural marxist, that's the cover you want to put on it to protect yourself.
@Jackaloftheazuresand it's a false narrative. They're unwilling to engage with critics. They're always at war, so truth is also their enemy and they talk to battle it.
Gloomy · F
@Jackaloftheazuresand No "cultural marxism" is just a bogeyman. I doubt the people criticising Frankfurt School for example have actually read Adorno or Marx and labeling it as anti American is also an idiotic take except you equate capitalism and US politics with America in general.
It is born out of a Nazi conspiracy theory and it's just not happening man.

@Gloomy You're late to the party. What you are discussing here has already been countered by the liberals.
@Jackaloftheazuresand since when is there ever a "settled" argument among Americans? Progress is the enemy.
Gloomy · F
@Jackaloftheazuresand Liberals? Ah right cause you want to talk about "cultural marxism" but probably don't even know the difference between liberals and marxists/socialists.
Jackaloftheazuresand · 26-30, M
@Gloomy Because even they have thrown you to the curb
Gloomy · F
@Jackaloftheazuresand 🤨 you make zero sense
@Jackaloftheazuresand the Marxists refuse you housing and welfare? Okay.
( See the Americans lie? Don't think they'll ever let anyone have peace. Just listen to them. And plan our solution.)
Jackaloftheazuresand · 26-30, M
@Gloomy Your thoughts are old and nobody wants you but your own. They are aware of your shtick, as are the right which you know.
Gloomy · F
@Jackaloftheazuresand Marxist thought is not old it keeps getting updated and lives on in leftists worldwide
Jackaloftheazuresand · 26-30, M
@Gloomy You can put all the new wood into the frame you want but if the foundation is cracked you'll achieve nothing
@Jackaloftheazuresand democracy in the economic system is a reasonable goal. Critique of capitalism is useful.
Gloomy · F
@Jackaloftheazuresand The foundation is anything but cracked... Capitalism is the system that has outlived its usefulness
Jackaloftheazuresand · 26-30, M
@Gloomy So that's how you'd define it, by usefulness. Usually we'd pay attention to stability. I suppose you could still catapult marxism through an asteroid with a railgun. You're going to destroy yourself, not because that's where the lead is buried (because I know it's elsewhere) but because you won't be able to assemble anything from the remnants.
Gloomy · F
@Jackaloftheazuresand Capitalism is damaging us and the planet. It served as a tool of change but progression cannot stop at this system.
Capitalism is not stable and neither is the world in general 😂
Jackaloftheazuresand · 26-30, M
@Gloomy It already has. The wall has been hit and there is nothing beyond it but more wall. This is the future of the rest of humanity, perhaps unfortunately for you. I can think of nothing more stable for us.

@Gloomy Anti-Marxists always think Marxism is a top-down imposition (given the history of authoritarian Marxist-Leninist states, it's understandable). Nonetheless, civil rights and social progressivism have little to do with Marxism. Marxists can embrace it, but I know Marxists who consider anything remotely idpol to be the domain of “liberals.” Labeling it “Cultural Marxism” is just a means of discounting something with a label seen as nefarious (as SumKindaMunster pointed out) and to paint social progressivism as the product of some shifty cabal, devoid of any popular support, something that “normal people” don’t want and is being forced on us by "deep state" conspirators (often mistaking corporations adopting idpol as a marketing device as evidence of this). But the fact is most of it is organic liberal progress, and it certainly all originated at the grassroots, no matter what kind of cynical support professed by the Soviets.
Jackaloftheazuresand · 26-30, M
@SW-User I like to think of it as a group of fools with converging ideas, more stupid than dark
SW-User
@Jackaloftheazuresand While idpol certainly can be foolish, I don't conflate excesses like "math is white supremacist" (or whatever--that's an extreme example, but idpol is often obnoxious and excessive) with the genuine pursuit of equal rights.
Gloomy · F
@Jackaloftheazuresand You still haven't proven that you even know anything about marxism to form such an opinion.
Jackaloftheazuresand · 26-30, M
@SW-User What thing that you can think of is the least over the line that determines something as a genuine pursuit?
Gloomy · F
@SW-User idpol is actually counter productive and is what the right uses against us in the end. If you change a societies base structure it's superstructure will adjust and make way for the abolition of oppression. The active fight against certain cases of oppression like for queer liberation doesn't have to be lead by idpol.
Jackaloftheazuresand · 26-30, M
@Gloomy Knowing how marxists act is enough since the things that exist on pages of history are so flat to be of no substance
Gloomy · F
@Jackaloftheazuresand 🙄🤦‍♀️
Jackaloftheazuresand · 26-30, M
@Gloomy What, does that blast a hole through your smokescreen? We aren't going to play hide the peanut with you. So you can be honest or you'll continue to be treated as such
