@chrisCA Since the US has far more gun killings than other nations, and people don't want to blame the guns, just mental illness, the only conclusion has to be that the US has many times more serious mental illness than any other nation on earth.
chrisCA · M
@windinhishair That would be a sad commentary on American society.
chrisCA · M
@FoothillsPatriot The actions of a few?
windinhishair · 61-69, M
@chrisCA I don't believe it to be the case. It just illustrates how ludicrous it is not to believe the ready availability of guns is a major issue.
chrisCA · M
@windinhishair I agree. Every country has mental illness, but they don't have easy access to weapons.
windinhishair · 61-69, M
@chrisCA And that is the big difference between the US and other nations.

@specman Many do, but some people kill who may not be clinically mentally ill but severe anger management issues or profound fear responses. And with access to weapons of mass murder, it is simple for them to commit them.
@windinhishair severe anger issues would be considered a mental issue. Criminals will always find guns or figure out better ways for mass killings. From what i hear a hardware store carries everything needed to make a bomb and you can find recipes and instructions on how to make some of the easier bombs.
There are going to be options for harming and killing multiple people. If you ban one then possibly another one more dangerous will pop up. TBH I doubt that mass killings will ever go away or stay down for along period of time. the only time it will go down is until they find another way (wouldn't be long either) to kill a mass amount of people.

@specman Other countries don't have these problems. Only the US. And the difference is the ready availability of these weapons of mass killing. I agree we will never be able to get rid of the problem, but banning future manufacturing and sales of these weapons will definitely make a difference, as it did previously.
Yes, people can make bombs. But it takes some knowledge and effort to make an effective bomb without blowing yourself up. There aren't millions of people who could do it. Anyone can get an assault weapon and kill dozens of people.

@windinhishair Criminals would still be able to get them.
windinhishair · 61-69, M
@specman Which is why we will never be able to stop gun homicides. But in general, these aren't the people involved in mass shootings. Those are the people we need to stop having access to these weapons.
@windinhishair they fall under criminal. They will get them legally or illegally.
@windinhishair At least we can agree on we have a problem.
windinhishair · 61-69, M
@specman A mass shooting becomes a crime when it is committed, obviously. But many people are not criminals up until the instant they commit the act. And other countries have mentally ill people who want to do harm to others. And those people are not easily obtaining these weapons and making their darkest acts reality.
@windinhishair criminal intent. They think about it and plan to do it.
windinhishair · 61-69, M
@specman Yes, and yet here, they have unfettered access to weapons capable of killing dozens of people quickly and efficiently, and mutilating their bodies beyond recognition. Only in the US.

@FoothillsPatriot No means no. Even for you. You are the only one here who is incapable of carrying on a civil discussion. No one else has that problem. Just you.
@windinhishair There is violence involving guns in other countries too. Our gun violence might differ a little.
We don't have the same social climate as other countries. The criminals don't think the same way and their violence is focused on that country's social climate. You make us out to be the worst Country as far as gun violence. Because of our diversity(a melting pot ) and all the different issues and way of thinking and the lack of value on life has caused people to have anger issues, Identity issues and other mental issues I'm sure.
